h-cube addresses the emerging need for low-cost, portable solutions for hyperspectral imaging in the terahertz (THz) region of the electromagnetic spectrum

About Us

H-cube aims at developing a ready-for-the-market, room temperature hyperspectral camera for far infrared electromagnetic radiation. Our system will pave the way to fast THz and sub-THz imaging at video rate, with spill overs in soil and crop non-destructive monitoring, medical diagnostic, security and quality control, addressing societal challenges such as climate and health.

The core of the technology lies in the development of thermomechanical bolometers based on silicon nitride trampoline membranes. This “single pixels” have been designed by leveraging on the expertise in optomechanics of CNR-Nano partner and will be further engineered and combined in H-cube.

The challenges faced by H-cube include an improved design of the thermomechanical bolometer (uniSa) which will be electrically probed and actuated (CNR,Elettra) and finally combined in large matrices (FBK). Dedicated spectral absorbers will enable the hyperspectral features (EUF). The final prototype will be tested in dedicated facilities for THz (RECENDT, Teravil), while their potential for the marker assessed by a common effort from all the partners lead by Asteria consulting.

H-Cube is a project funded by ATTRACT-phase 2, with the goal of developing breakthrough sensing technologies for science and society and boosting innovation in Europe. Link ad attract

Our partnership consists of research institutes, companies and consultancy firms located in various countries in Europe and networked to bring a Thz imaging device to the market.
CNR (National Research Council) in the institutes of Iom and Nanodevelops prototype devices with the design of the University of Salerno,which are then manufactured by FBK (Bruno Kessler Foundation)Electronic reading of the devices is developed by Elettra SinctroroneTrieste.The devices will be tested by Recendt and Teravil who are the companiesthat will test the device in a production line.The University of Eastern Finland develops advanced absorbers based on2d materials. Asteria Consulting is in charge of analysing the market placement of thedevice.
